Charlie Cox Knew About Daredevil’s MCU Return Years Ago Says Iron Fist Star
Jessica Henwick, Iron Fist star, said that Charlie Cox knew Daredevil’s return to Marvel Cinematic Universe many years ago. Henwick was first seen in Netflix’s Iron Fist as fan-favorite hero Colleen Wing. In 2017, Henwick and Cox were seen together in Netflix’s The Defenders.
Netflix’s The Defenders features Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage (Mike Colter) to save New York City. As Disney moved into its streaming service, the miniseries were canceled, and many other highly-acclaimed Marvel series. While the shows were distinct from the MCU, both were set in the same universe. The Daredevil series refers to the Chitauri attack on New York City from The Avengers.
Henwick spoke with THR about her plans to join the MCU. She also revealed how Cox knew of his chance to return to the MCU years before his humble appearance as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man. Henwick reveals that she originally planned to play Xialing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. However, she decided not to take the role because she didn’t want Colleen’s story to end prematurely. She adds that she would have discussed the possibility of her returning to Colleen if it was possible, as Cox had known years ago about his potential return. Below is Henwick’s complete response.
“That was definitely brought up during the discussion. If I did [ShangChi], Colleen would be put to bed. Although it wasn’t the most important factor, it was definitely mentioned in conversation. I love Colleen. She has changed my life. Yes, I would love to have the chance to visit her again, but I don’t know how probable that is. Charlie was aware of this opportunity many years ago. It was already happening to him. If there were plans with Colleen, I believe I would have known by now. ”
Cox is back to reprise his iconic role. Vincent D’Onofrio, Disney+’s Hawkeye’s Kingpin, also returned recently. Many have wondered if Cox will make a comeback in the Echo spinoff TV series. Henwick did not decide to take on the role of Shang-Chi’s sister in ShangChi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. However, this would not have been the first time an actor had taken on another Marvel character. Chris Evans was the Human Torch in Fantastic4 before landing the iconic role of Captain America. Gemma Chan also played two characters in the same universe. She was Minn-Erva Captain Marvel and Sersi Eternals.
Fans have come to love the gritty and dark themes of the Marvel shows after the debut of Daredevil on Netflix. Many are petitioning for the shows’ recycling. Henwick was not keen to end Colleen’s role, particularly with many fans wishing for a Daughters of the Dragons spinoff. Henwick will likely play Colleen shortly, even though Cox is returning to his role.
