Multiple T-Rexes have been part of Jurassic Park, the most well-known being featured in Steven Spielberg’s original film. Spielberg created the Jurassic saga in 1993 with Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. At least one T-Rex appeared in each of the six Jurassic films and Netflix’s animated series Jurassic World. It is still one of the most famous dinosaurs featured in the series.

The T-rex was initially being portrayed as a villain in Jurassic Park (1993) when it attacked a caravan that included Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Lex Murphy(Ariana Richards) and Tim Murphy (Joseph Mazzello), who were the grandchildren of John Hammond (Richard Attenborough). The film ends with the T-rex performing a heroic gesture to save the humans from a pack of Velociraptors. This transforms the T-rex into an ‘excellent guy for most of Jurassic Park’s franchise, except for The Lost World. T-rex is a famous predator that has fought other large meat-eaters in Jurassic Park, such as the Spinosaurus, Indominus Rex. Although it didn’t always have the best record against them, it’s still a vital part of Jurassic Park.

There are nine T-rexes within the Jurassic World franchise. However, only five of them have been seen on the screen. Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World movies have made it a point of giving Spielberg’s original T.rex a moment in the spotlight. Jurassic World: Dominion 2022’s opening scene reveals that the original dinosaur bit by the fly in amber was the T-Rex. John Hammond and InGen genetics, his genetics company, cloned their dinosaurs. The T-rex in Jurassic Park clones the original T-rex, which was 65-million years old. This makes the T-rex, the revered dinosaur, the mother of all the Jurassic dinosaurs (since all the original Jurassic Park dinosaurs were female).

Alan Grant was shocked when John Hammond revealed that there is a T-rex at Jurassic Park. Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park novel featured two Tyrannosaurs: an adult and a young Tyrannosaur. But Spielberg reduced it to one giant super predator for the movie. One of the most memorable movie scenes of all time is the T-rex’s dramatic entrance and attack upon the Jurassic Park humans. Grant was reportedly attacked by the T-rex, which ate Hammond’s “bloodsucking lawyer” and inflicted severe injuries for Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum).

The velociraptors became the real threat to Jurassic Park’s human cast. Grant, Hammond and Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) escaped Isla Nublar when the T-rex saved the day. The iconic shot of the T.rex roaring in a Visitor’s Center while the banner “When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth” fell around her remains. The original T-rex did not make an appearance in the franchise again until Jurassic World 2015.
